apda’s Judging system
How does APDA’s Judging System work?
One of the things that makes APDA unique is its independent and transparent judging system, designed to ensure fairness and integrity at every competition.
Multiple Judges, Independent Decisions
At least three (up to five) judges score each routine individually. They don’t discuss performances or rankings with each other, every judge forms their own opinion. This helps maintain integrity and fairness in every result.
Routine-by-Routine Scoring
Each routine (e.g., lyrical, contemporary, & dance) is judged separately. Judges award placings from 1st to 6th for the strongest performers in that routine, based on technique, skill, execution, and performance.
Balanced Results
Judges’ scores are entered into a centralised scoring system that calculates overall results. More complex routines are weighted more heavily, making sure dancers are rewarded for both skill and challenge.
Qualified, Trained Judges
Our judges include both APDA teachers and respected dance professionals. Every judge must complete and pass a dedicated APDA judging course to ensure they can accurately assess technique and execution.
This training, combined with our unique judging structure, ensures the best possible outcome at each APDA competition.
