Competitions & Performance Days
At Central Coast Physie & Dance, competitions are where confidence grows, friendships flourish, and hard work truly shines. Whether your dancer is stepping on stage for the very first time or aiming for national-level events, our APDA competitions and performance days offer exciting, supportive opportunities to perform, achieve personal goals, and be part of something special. With a strong focus on teamwork, encouragement, and building lifelong skills, our club makes competitions fun, empowering, and accessible for every member—no matter their experience.
About Our Competitions & Performance Days
At APDA, our competitions and performance days provide exciting opportunities for members to showcase their hard work and mastery of the syllabus. These events inspire goal setting, celebrate personal achievements, and foster growth both on and off the stage. The students are given the choice of participating in team events to represent their club and individual competitions. With these yearly events our members learn essential skills such as team building, resilience and sportsmanship. APDA prides itself on national competitions being held in the finest Australian venues such as the International Convention Centre (ICC). All APDA rules must be complied to and a leotard with the APDA logo must be worn at all competitions
Why do we Love Competitions?
Competitions are so much more than just trophies! They help build confidence, refine technique, and conquer performance anxiety. Plus, they’re a fantastic way to meet new friends and have loads of fun. While competing isn’t compulsory, we highly encourage all members to give it a go!
Apda’s judging system
How does APDA’s Judging System work?
One of the things that makes APDA unique is its independent and transparent judging system, designed to ensure fairness and integrity at every competition.
Multiple Judges, Independent Decisions
At least three (up to five) judges score each routine individually. They don’t discuss performances or rankings with each other, every judge forms their own opinion. This helps maintain integrity and fairness in every result.
Routine-by-Routine Scoring
Each routine (e.g., lyrical, contemporary, & dance) is judged separately. Judges award placings from 1st to 6th for the strongest performers in that routine, based on technique, skill, execution, and performance.
Balanced Results
Judges’ scores are entered into a centralised scoring system that calculates overall results. More complex routines are weighted more heavily, making sure dancers are rewarded for both skill and challenge.
Qualified, Trained Judges
Our judges include both APDA teachers and respected dance professionals. Every judge must complete and pass a dedicated APDA judging course to ensure they can accurately assess technique and execution.
This training, combined with our unique judging structure, ensures the best possible outcome at each APDA competition.
Competition CALENDAR
-
Performance Day / Chocolate Comp
This is a fun dress rehearsal with the club. There’s no pressure—no places are awarded, but teachers may give feedback to help improve students’ skills. It’s a great way to get comfortable in performance and leotards and nerves before competitions.
Interclubs
Interclubs are organised performances between clubs from around Australia as a friendly preparation to performing the syllabus. There are generally 2-3 Interclubs to perform at per year. There are no expectations at these events other than the student’s will to perform to the best of their ability and have a lot of fun doing it.
-
Teams
Teams consist of 6 members who are judged on their ability to perform the syllabus in perfect timing and standard of work. Members are to work together in a friendly and committed manner. Teams
Our Team Philosophy
At Central Coast Physie & Dance, being part of a team means more than just performing together, it’s about connection, encouragement, and having fun. Teams give our members a chance to grow, challenge themselves, and experience the joy of working together towards a shared goal.
While we love to be competitive and strive for excellence, we never do so at the cost of anyone’s wellbeing. We believe in creating a supportive environment where every member feels valued and uplifted.
Each team is made up of six members and is judged on their ability to perform the syllabus with precision, synchronisation, and a high standard of work. True success in teams comes from strong communication, commitment, and a positive team spirit. While we aim to perform at our best, our team culture is grounded in care, connection, and joy.
Our values guide everything we do:
Connect: We show up for each other, support one another, and build friendships that go beyond the competition floor.
Inspire: We lift each other up, celebrate progress, and create a space where everyone feels confident to grow.
Thrive: We focus on joy, wellbeing, and working together, because when we feel good, we perform at our best.
In our teams:
Mistakes are part of the journey. What matters is how we support each other and move forward together.
Effort, consistency, and teamwork are valued far more than perfection.
We commit to showing up for each other. That means attending practices and keeping your teacher informed if you’re unable to make it.
Most importantly, we laugh, learn, and make memories as a team.
At our club, teams aren’t just about results, they’re about people, teamwork and caring for each other.
